The Whole Story
Born and raised in Detroit, I attended St. Gemma Elementary for 8 years followed by a High School career at Catholic Central in Redford. I grew up heavily focused on playing sports such as football, baseball and basketball. During my High School years at CC, I ran track and Cross Country and was honored to be a part of a State Championship team.
The 7th child of 8 kids, I was the first to go away to college and I went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physiology at Michigan State University (MSU). During my years away at college, I joined the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity and competed on the MSU Equestrian Team. Riding and training horses have been one of my passions since I was young boy.
After starting my Freshman year at MSU, I quickly realized the challenges of being on your own living away at college. That first Summer break in college led me to my US Navy recruiter. I learned about what it meant to either Enlist or become a Commissioned Officer in the military. I decided to raise my right hand and Enlist in the Navy Reserves so I could attend Hospital Corpsman School and gain education and experience working in healthcare. I returned to the campus of Michigan State and resumed my pre-med studies as a Navy Reservist. It was the perfect plan, or so I thought, until Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm came about. I found myself leaving college for my deployment to the Middle East in support of war effort but then returned once again to MSU after my deployment detour.
I worked part time through college at Sparrow Hospital where I gained clinical experience as an Orderly, Burn Tech, ER Tech and Ortho Tech. I felt I was finally living out my dream and was truly where I belonged. I made the Dean’s List for each of the next three years of my college career and ended up earning a Full Academic Scholarship from the US Navy to the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
I was able to complete my 3-year Residency in Family Medicine at Botsford Hospital in Farmington Hills where I was able to become fully trained to practice full-scope Family Medicine. After graduation, the Navy assigned me to work at Naval Hospital San Diego for four years where I was credentialed to practice everything I had learned in training: Inpatient/Outpatient medicine for all ages, Prenatal Care and Obstetrical Deliveries, Colonoscopy, Vasectomy and minor office surgical procedures. I re-discovered my love of running and training during these years out West especially. I began to train in the sport of Triathlon and was able to swim/bike/run in races for US Navy Athletics. I competed in dozens of events during my active duty years including the Hawaii Half Ironman and Ironman Utah.
Once again, my ‘perfect plan’ was sidetracked by a life event that will forever affect everyone in the world today: 9/11. In January of 2003, I deployed with the US Marines to Kuwait and we built and operated our forward-deployed tent hospital in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. I remained there for 6 months as the crisis in the Middle East was getting under way. After my fours of active duty ended, I returned back home to Michigan and started working as a Family Physician in the clinic system that I had trained in myself. I was helping with teaching current Family Medicine Residents while seeing my own patient panel. After about 9 years of working there, I was deployed again as a Navy Reservist for another 6 month active duty stint. Once I returned, I started to phase out of training young physicians and was seeing my own patient panel for the hospital full time. As time went on over the subsequent 9 years, my patient panel continued to grow and I could see how healthcare started to really change. My love of taking care of patients was being stifled by more and more restrictions, insurance regulations and time constraints. Once I retired from my US Navy Reserve career in 2022, I officially began my quest to be able to leave hospital employment and open up an office where I was able to deliver the best health care experience possible.

My experience with our healthcare system often feels like an impersonal maze and no one has time to see me about simple needs/issues or routine physicals. So far with Dr. Kuzdak, it has been refreshingly different. When I have had a need for urgent care, he has always made time for me the same day. He has always ensured I receive care when it’s most needed—not weeks or months down the line, but the same day. The level of care and immediacy is a rare find these days and something I deeply appreciate. My visits feel like conversations where my thoughts and concerns are heard and valued. Together, we tailored my treatment plan that I am comfortable with and will ultimately have me on the road to recovery. His expertise in osteopathic manipulations has also been transformative, offering relief where others couldn’t and minimizing my need for additional specialists. To put it simply, it has been worth every penny to be at his practice and I won’t be looking back.

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Kuzdak for more than 13 years. He was a true blessing that came into my life. Doctors who are good, thorough, and kind hearted can be difficult to come by these days, but with Dr. Ron Kuzdak, I have all three. He is an attentive listener and actually cares about what his patients needs are, how they’re feeling and the best outcomes pertaining to their treatments. Dr. Kuzdak has a sense of humor, and the ability to make you feel comfortable discussing sensitive information. The office staff are friendly and supportive, and the office itself is relaxing in atmosphere, as well as complete with thoughtful provisions such as hot and cold drinks and fun swivel chairs! I’m grateful to be a part of his growing health care journey at Gem Health!

Once you enter the office of Gem Health & Wellness, you are nicely surprised at how the office is not like a traditional cold sterile doctors office. It’s usually very warm and welcoming. You can tell he added personal touches of his life into the office. You are greeted by one of the staff with a warm welcome (something that seems to be lost now a days) and they ask while you’re getting settles if you would like a beverage, something also unheard of at a doctors office. So, Dr. Ron Kuzdak has been my primary for 20+ years. Words can’t express how fortunate I am to have him as a doctor. I can literally talk to him about any medical issues or concerns I have and he’s always listening with a kind ear and a non-judgemental attitude. He doesn’t rush you when you’re in his office. That’s an experience that does not seem to exist in this day and age. That’s one of the many traits I appreciate about him, besides being extremely knowledgeable, caring and having a great sense of humor. He wants his patients to be relaxed and at his ease in his office and it shows. Dr. K is bringing back what is lacking in the medical field which is the 2 C’s: Care & Compassion

Dr. Ron Kuzdak has been our family physician for almost 20 years. He has guided us through multiple medical situations: including general illness, sports physicals, general physicals, knee replacements, and cancer treatments. His knowledge and strong professional medical network have been key to maintaining our family’s health and wellbeing. His compassion, interest, and follow-up with each individual patient is one of the reasons we continue to choose him as our primary physician.

I started coming to see Dr. Kuzdak when my family physician retired. Initially, I was very nervous because I had a longstanding relationship with my previous DO. Upon my first meeting with Dr. Kuzdak, I made him aware of my anxiety’s and concerns. Immediately, I was assured that he would do everything to take great care of me and my family. He was so warm and welcoming the first time I met him and he still is today. There has never been a time where I felt rushed or that I was not listened to. I feel like we have a partnership when discussing any and all options regarding my health. Dr. Kuzdak has also become a dear friend. It feels like I’ve known him my whole life. He makes a point to get to know you, your likes/dislikes, hobbies, and even makes a point to become aware of the most important people/events in your life. I’ve never seen a doctor have such incredible people skills. My son has horrible anxiety. It’s really difficult for him to adapt to any kind of change. He was very little when we started seeing Dr. Kuz. I was preparing for a complete meltdown the moment Kuz came into the treatment room to meet my son for the first time. The complete opposite happened and my son walked over and sat in his lap. I was flabbergasted. This had never happened before. Dr. Kuz was so kind and immediately put my son at ease. Anxiety runs deep in my family. Any kind of change is immediately followed with apprehension and doubt. This ended up being the best thing that could have happened to us. We are so thankful to have the most approachable, considerate and sincere man in our lives. His passion for being there to help any patient, at any time, is truly genuine.

Dr. Kuzdak and the Gem Health team,
I’m writing to thank you for providing such a great health care experience. I met Dr. Kuzdak when he was a hospital-employed doctor, and saw right away that he was genuinely interested in my health. As a
diabetic that was diagnosed with Type 1 at age 44 (which normally starts as a teenager), my situation is a bit unique. I felt listened to in a way that I didn’t experience with previous PCPs, and he helped me navigate my diabetes management. Together we’ve been successful in dramatic improvements in my blood sugar, results I didn’t achieve under previous PCPs.
As Dr. Kuzdak opened his practice at Gem Health, I didn’t really understand the medical “market”. I had always just gone to a hospital doctor, because there was an opening. I’ve found out that each doctor
has tons of patients assigned to them, whether they can actually support them adequately or not. Gem Health is different, having a philosophy of limiting the number of patients, so that each patient gets the
personal attention they could really use. It has made such an impact on my experience of health care!
My in-person visits are un-rushed and on time. I have a web app that I’ve used many times to communicate updates, getting personal responses from Dr. Kuzdak, and very quickly as well. I overheard Dr. Kuzdak tell his staff, “If the patient can’t come in during regular hours, we’ll schedule an after-hours appointment then.” At the previous place, the doors lock at 4:30pm, period.
As I’m getting older (mid 50’s), I can’t afford to have some heath indicator be missed by my PCP. I
believe Dr. Kuzdak would find things earlier than an hospital doctor because of the unhurried
environment and limited patients at Gem Health, and because he’s an excellent doctor.
Thank you, Dr. Kuzdak and the Gem Health staff. I appreciate what you do to keep me healthy.

I just wanted to take a moment to thank Dr. K and the whole team for the amazing treatment I've received since the opening of Gem!! From easy communication to the relaxed spa-like atmosphere, they have thought of every detail. I can't say enough about Dr. K. He listens! He cares! He uses humor to communicate when I'm scared or nervous about my health. He is teaching me to stop being my own doctor! Lots of good work is happening there and totally worth the membership!

Ron Kuzdak has been my family physician for over 10 years. During that time he has seen me through many ups and downs in regard to health issues. His current concierge practice is one that I find to be appealing because he is readily available by text telephone video chat or office visit. He is thorough, caring, and a good communicator. He will sit and talk through options with you as long as necessary to help you feel comfortable with your choices and his recommendations. The fact that he now has his own practice on a concierge basis is so much better than seeing him in a clinic setting. He takes as much time as you need in an office visit. He responds quickly to text, telephone calls and messages. His office staff are also as a attentive and helpful. I would strongly recommend joining the Gem Health group for any and all medical needs.
